Col-Wye.com: Making New Best Friends Since 1998

About Us

Paul and I were married in 1967 and got our first Weimaraner.  I had had Weimaraners before but never showed them.  We had a wonderful time with this puppy, showing her to a championship and getting an obedience degree.  We took her to Florida and Texas and despite knowing nothing about show competition, enjoyed it thoroughly.  In 1972 we had our first litter, of which no more need be said.

By 1978 we realized we were off on the wrong foot and started from scratch with two show quality puppies from Arenas Kennels in Las Vegas.  In the eighties we had what I believe to have been the only amateur-owner-handled dog to be in the Top Ten show scores for four consecutive years.  Champion Col-Wye Sunny Jim v Arenas, CD, NRD, V did so well and was pleasure to travel with. We went all over the country in the days when you could fly a dog without all the delays that prevail now.

We have had about a dozen litters in 41 years.  We only breed when we want a puppy (or two) for ourselves. We think Weimaraners are the finest dogs for people like us.  They are affectionate, protective, family oriented, biddable and really want a job. They are not dogs for a person who wants a trophy pet. They are not dogs for a person who doesn’t want to include his dog in some activities or intends to leave him alone and unoccupied for protracted periods.
